Manchester, UK, August 1, 2017 – At this year’s Patient Safety Awards, Bruin Biometrics and Isle of Wight NHS Trust were awarded Best Product or Innovation for Patient Safety for use of the SEM Scanner, a non-invasive device for early detection of pressure ulcers (“bedsores”), by the prestigious Health Service Journal. An estimated 18 to 25 percent of patients in acute care and long-term care settings suffer from pressure ulcers, which cost the NHS £2.1B per annum.

New Study Data Show SEM Scanner Detects Pressure Ulcers 3.9 Days Ahead of Today’s Standard of Care

Findings from a study by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland's School of Nursing using the SEM Scanner, were presented at the 18th Annual Meeting of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel.

All patients exhibiting deviation, as detected by the SEM Scanner, went on to develop visible signs of pressure ulceration.
